Should politicians have age limits?

Anyone who knows me knows I’m pretty much apolitical. I don’t much care for politics, and I’m certainly not one to argue politics with anyone. I’m always down for a good (brief) discussion about politics and the direction of our country, but for the most part I think both parties are two sides of the same coin, so me and my moderate, Independent self stays on the sidelines.
I can’t help but notice what is going on with some of our politicians in recent days.

Snow White goes way past ‘woke’

There’s nothing wrong with inclusivity. In fact, it’s a good thing. But in some instances, the need to be inclusive and politically correct seems to be put so far front and center that it makes the thing that is being shoved through the PC knothole seem borderline insane. If you need proof, look no further than the new “Snow White” movie Disney is in the middle of remaking—to the delight of next to no one.

Combating prescription drug shortage

“Kristi, he’s turning blue!”
Those were the words of my mom when my son, Booker, was just four years old. I was helping out with the annual picnic at our church when she came racing over to me saying she was taking him to the hospital. Booker had breathing problems ever since he was born, but this time my son was quite literally turning blue because he could not breathe. Ten minutes later, we had him checked into the hospital receiving life-saving medication.

Food truck issue similar to VRBO issue

If you haven’t done so already, you can read on the front page of this issue of the Chronicle about the Custer City Council’s slow march to implementing rules for food truck vendors as a part of its Ordinance No. 811, which deals with peddling and transient merchants. The council has been working on this for quite some time now, trying to balance the needs and wants of constituents who say they want the food trucks in town against restaurant owners who are worried that the food truck owners will take away business without ever investing in the town.

Take a hike (then a nap)

I recently had the pleasure of taking one of the best naps I may have ever taken. I don’t usually take naps because when I do, I tend to wake up even more tired, and therefore, grumpier. Now I think I’ve found a loophole: taking a nap outside.

Local journalism bill needs support

Freedom and independence took center stage in the American colonies this summer 247 years ago when 56 brave men signed a document that would have all but meant their execution if arrested by King George’s army. Today, Americans share in the luxury of celebrating those ideals that help define our great nation. Speaking of independence, a bill pending in Congress would support a free, independent press and its vital role in our nation, and we need our state’s congressional delegation to support it.

Another July 4 has come and gone, and as it unfolded many memories were made by all of those who celebrated our nation’s independence in their own way.
For many years of my life, July 4 was a huge deal for me, and one of the holidays I looked forward to the most. The reason? One word: fireworks.

Titanic submersible was harrowing ordeal

Most of our country, and much of the world, for that matter, was gripped by the story about the submersible with five people aboard that went missing as it traveled to view the wreckage of the Titanic. On Thursday a debris field from the submersible was found, meaning it had suffered some sort of catastrophic implosion at some point during its trek to the bottom of the sea. At the time the debris field was found, hope was growing short of finding the crew inside alive.
