Demand some good

The last week has completely dumbfounded me. And I know we won’t agree. Because we don’t seem to agree on anything anymore. We keep moving further and further apart. Venezuela, Greenland, the Fed Reserve. 
I thought for sure we’d agree on Nicole Renee Good. 
But we don’t. And judging from comments in person and on social media, we are so not united. It’s terrifying to me.
I am someone who believes in integrity and tries to always look at just the facts. In this case, I believe there are very few.
Nicole Renee Good was a mother.

Stepping into the new year is always intriguing. You’ve got your New Year’s resolution naysayers who think the whole idea is downright ridiculous. On the other end you’ve got the gung-ho, “new year, new me,” folks ready for a complete personal overhaul.
I usually fall somewhere in the middle. 
I realize that beginning a new year doesn’t magically change anything. However, I personally appreciate the symbolic fresh start—the turning of the page, even if the story isn’t getting completely rewritten. 

Governor’s race will affect legislation

Greetings! It’s getting to be that time of year again. The 101st legislative session starts Tuesday, Jan. 13 and goes through March 20. March 30 is reserved for any vetos the governor might have given. It takes a two-thirds vote in each body to override a governor’s veto, so 47 out of 70 House members and 24 out of 35 Senate members.

The year is drawing to a close. Depending on when you read this, it may already be 2026!
It has been an absolutely wonderful year for me. I got held at gun point by two kids on a hiking trail outside a favela in Rio de Janeiro. I saw the beautiful colors and sounds of Carnival.
I spent numerous days with friends and family and my cuddly Zeuss. I traveled beyond what I thought possible and saw great shows and ate fabulous food.
Best of all, as I look at my “2025” list, I got 16 items finished. More than half of the 25 I had listed.

Growing up on our family ranch near Union Center, the holiday season was always a time of simple joys. The ornaments might not have been the fanciest, but they were ours—and they reflected the true meaning of Christmas. At the heart of it all was the story of Christ’s birth, a reminder of hope, humility, and sacrifice. That celebration and connection kept us grounded through the long winter ahead.

A Hollywood ending

I cried today at the news of Rob Reiner’s passing. Not because I was a huge fan, although I did enjoy his role as Meathead in “All in the Family” and the movies he directed, including “This is Spinal Tap” and “When Harry Met Sally.”

Winning isn’t everything

I am about as competitive as they come—from big sports competitions down to the silliest side bets. I don’t like to lose. Who does?
Last week, I was watching the girls middle school basketball games. My daughter didn’t play until the second game, but I like to watch all the teams and cheer on her teammates. When you’ve watched a group of girls grow from the time they first picked up a basketball in kindergarten to taking on a new level of play in middle school, you feel invested. I cheer for them like they’re my own.
