Introverts and extroverts are better together

It’s been said that every introvert needs an extrovert to adopt them. I agree with this theory. As an introvert, I value the extroverts who have made me a part of their world. They encourage me to go outside my comfort zone and experience new things while simultaneously offering a familiar sense of support to lean into.

Growing up in New Jersey there was a famous bridge known as the “Trenton Makes” bridge.
 It crossed  the Delaware River from Trenton and proudly admitted  in big bold letters “Trenton Makes, The World Takes.”

This past weekend I attended the Elevate Rapid City crackerbarrel. As always, there was a great turnout including legislators representing Districts 30, 31, 32, 33, 34 and 35. Elevate presented an organized, safe environment for all participants that allowed for some lively questions from constituents whether in person or online, along with thoughtful answers from the legislators present.

I joke that I’m a bad millennial. Well, actually, I’m two years shy of being a millennial. But I still claim it as my generation because those are the people I grew up with, and I watched technology drastically change along the way. 

End of session is in sight

Well, the finish line is in sight for the 99th legislative session. Even though we only have two weeks left, this is “crunch” time for legislators.
During this small window of time there will be long hours and intense negotiating between the members of the House and the Senate. Funding requests will be finalized along with ultimately producing a balanced budget. 

Can we be content?

How often do you feel content?
It seems like the world is rarely content these days. There is a mentality in society that the grass is always greener on the other side. Everyone is always trying to get to the next big thing, big promotion or big milestone.

Our great faces need some relief, please

So, yay, we’re not going to have any property tax relief anytime soon. I for one am super excited about this because I love spending a quarter of my income each year on my property taxes. Seriously I’m  disappointed by the legislative session, by our county officials, even by our Governor.
I hear from so many people, the fear in their shaky words as they wonder how much more they can take.
I see their faces, the furrows on their brows, the bags under their eyes, the lines of worry.

Smarter than you think

Do you ever get complimented for things you don’t feel especially talented at? 
Lately, several people have spontaneously complimented me on my singing. As much as I appreciate their support and kindness, I get a little sheepish when people compliment my voice. 
I’ve been a vocalist on church worship teams for over 10 years and am currently helping lead worship at my church in Custer. But honestly, I didn’t consider myself all that musical until a few years ago.

Greetings from Pierre! 
Well, it was a tough week at the capital this week. SB 167, the bill to cap property valuation for tax purposes (started out at HB 1040), was heard in the Senate Taxation committee. 
The bill passed out of committee but had opposition from 17 highly-paid lobbyists more interested in the cause they were hired to represent than the homeowners.  To our surprise, SB 167 was heard on the floor of the Senate the very next day.

We’ve all said it. Those three little  words that some of us hear each and every day, I must have heard it over a dozen times yesterday. And it made me a bit sadder each time. 
Wait.
What??
No not those three little words.
How often in the course of your day do you say these three little words: 
I’m sorry (you see it really is three words, not two).
I was at my other job yesterday and heard the waitress say it each time she passed me by. 
“I’m sorry.”
“I’m sorry, hun.”
