Sharon Shipley

Sharon L. Shipley was born May 24, 1939, to Fred Merle and Agnes M. Hammick in Fort Smith, Ark.
Sharon was a force of nature who cared deeply about her family and her community, living a life of service to others. She was active in business, philanthropy, the arts and politics as well as being a devoted wife, mother, “Nanny” and “Grand Nan” to her family.
She graduated from Fort Smith High School and began dating Earl while in college at the University of Arkansas. They married in July of 1958 and had Kerry in August of 1959 followed by Carl in September of 1960.

Julie Goldsberry

Julie Marie Goldsberry was born Jan. 18, 1960, in Corona Calif.
Julie and husband, Kim, made Hill City, S.D., their home in 2007 after falling in love with the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Julie bravely fought Stage 4 metastatic  breast cancer for 2-1/2 years.
Julie passed away Dec. 3, 2022. She was 62.
Loved by everybody, her laughter and smile shined brighter than the sun.
Julie will be lovingly missed by all those who knew her and will live on their hearts.

Michael Aman

Michael J. “Mike” Aman was born March 11, 1957, in Hot Springs, S.D., the second of 10 children born to Jim and Freda Aman, of Custer, S.D. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Custer.
Mike had nine siblings: Cindy, Patty, Carol, John, Lloyd, Sandra, James, Richard, and Stephen.
Mike grew up in Custer and graduated from Custer High School in 1975. Mike had a deep love for the Black Hills and enjoyed hunting and fishing as he grew up.

Howard Muse

Howard Lee Muse was born Jan. 24, 1950, in Colorado Springs, Colo. In his teens Lee left California and moved to Cimarron, N.M., where he worked on the Philmont ranch and found  his love of cowboying. He later went on to Colorado to continue working on some ranches for Tom Trefney and Paul Kane in the Red Owl Canyon area near Wellington, Colo.

Raymond Kester

Raymond Kester was the 13th child born May 24, 1954, to Kenneth and Violet Kester. Ray was a gentle, quiet and caring soul. He loved his family and was very present in their lives. He was also an amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, great uncle, great great uncle and friend to all who were blessed to know him.

Larry Walker

Larry E. Walker was born Jan. 4, 1945, in Pierre, S.D., to Chet and Vera (Hopkins) Walker. He grew up and spent most of his life on a ranch in southeast Meade County, South Dakota, on the scenic Cheyenne River breaks. Throughout his childhood, he rode horseback with his four other siblings to attend rural grade school. Larry graduated from Wall (S.D.) High School and went on to attend Black Hills State University (S.D.).

Doris ‘Dori’ Fors

Doris “Dori” Fors was born Jan. 14, 1949, in Eureka, S.D., and passed away Nov. 26, 2022, in Sheboygan, Wis. Dori was united in marriage with Neill Fors July 20, 1968 in Redfield, S.D.
Dori is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Fors Grinwald and Jeremy Grinwald; grandchildren, Lauren and Sam Kelm; sisters, brothers and in-laws, Don and Linda Nagel, Pam Wilhelm, Chris and Jim Jeske, Jim Nagel, Kim Nagel and Janie Robbins, Richard Bottum and Terri Fors.

Elliot ‘Sonny’ Laramie

Elliot “Sonny” Fabian Laramie was born in Florissant, Mo., in September 1936 to Fabian and Goldie Laramie.   He was the second oldest of six children and ended his education to help provide for the family by working after he finished 8th grade.
Sonny was an Army paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division after being drafted into the Korean war in 1958.

Alexander Easson

Alexander R. Easson, 77, of Custer, S.D., died at his residence Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022.
Services will be at 11a.m., Monday, Dec. 5 at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Easson of Custer.
Arrangements have been placed under the local direction of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer.

Doris ‘Dotty’ Mae Tillman

On April 24, 1932, the lives of Arthur and Dorothy Gould were brightened when they welcomed a tiny little baby girl into this world. They named her Doris Mae Gould. But she preferred to be called “Dotty.”
 
Doris grew up in Hill City, S.D. She attended all 12 years of school in the original Hill City school building. She was active in choir, science and debate (which she enjoyed all her life). Doris had a beautiful singing voice.
