Americans tired of endless wars

News of an American rocket attack that killed a top Iranian general in Iraq last week was hailed by most Republicans and condemned by most Democrats. This comes as no surprise considering the deep political divide we have in this country today. If you changed the name of our president from Trump to Obama you may have a complete reversal of opinion on this matter. This is how ridiculous the deep divide has become in America.

Nevertheless, the sudden attack last week took everyone by surprise as we just began a new year with high hopes of peace and prosperity. The economy is on a roll, unemployment is at record lows and 2020 promises to be more of the same. The last thing we need is another war in a region we are trying to withdraw from.

President Trump said he didn’t order the rocket attack to start another war. He said he ordered it to prevent one from happening. We’ll see. We should remember that Obama ordered his share of drone attacks as president and gave the word to take out Osama Bin Laden.

What most Americans still don’t yet fully realize is that Obama helped fund these terror networks through a complex international money laundering scheme that delivered over $150 billion to Iran during the Obama administration. At least $1 billion went to fund Iran’s nuclear weapons program, with full knowledge from Obama. Obama also helped Iran capture a U.S. drone and two Navy boats in order to give Iran U.S. military encryption technology. (And the U.S. House of Representatives just impeached President Trump.)

After 9/11, we invaded Afghanistan in search of the perpetrators who killed nearly 3,000 Americans. In 2003, we invaded Iraq in search of weapons of mass destruction and to take out dictator Saddam Hussein. We are still in those countries with a few thousand troops for some reason. 

Iran has vowed to retaliate after the death of Gen. Qasem Soleimani and several others who were with him at an airport in Baghdad when they were wiped out in a U.S. drone rocket attack. Soleimani had been linked to the deaths of at least 600 U.S. military service members in Iraq, according to the White House. The scenario presented to President Trump by military and intelligence officials was that last Friday was the only window of opportunity to take out the Iranian general. Trump gave the go-ahead.

Trump said Soleimani was “plotting eminent and sinister attacks on American diplomats and military personnel.” He said the general was responsible for attacks on innocent citizens in cities around the world. He further accused the general of being behind the recent death of a U.S. contractor and the storming of the U.S. embassy in Baghdad last week that resulted in the burning of the reception area. One hundred U.S. Marines were quickly dispatched to bolster security at the besieged embassy and assist in its evacuation. Trump said there would be no more Benghazis. An additional 3,500 U.S. military service members from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg are being sent to the Middle East to reinforce our 5,000 troops still in that region. A combat team of several hundred from the Army’s 173rd Airborne Brigade stationed in Vicenza, Italy, are also on alert to protect our embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, if needed.

When elected president, Trump promised to end these wars and bring our service members back home. Apparently this plan has been changed for the time being, at least, due to tensions in the area. Even those who support the president’s bold action to take out the Iranian terrorist general are still nervous about possible repercussions. Iran’s leadership has vowed to retaliate against the death of Soleimani who they see as a martyr.

The Bible says that in the end times there will be wars and rumors of war. This may well be the situation we find ourselves in today. Americans are tired of endless wars.
