Aspen Frasier continues to dominate the mats in Hill City, placing first at the Mahpiya Luta Wrestling Tournament Jan. 31.
Frasier had a round one win against Sherman Landon Brown of Lakota Tech. The match lasted 2:54 and featured three nearfalls and a takedown.
Frasier faced Casen Humbracht of Hot Springs in his second round, in a one period win.
In round three, Frasier easily defeated Finnley Osborne of Douglas-Rapid City Christian.
Two takedowns, three near falls and a reversal earned Frasier a win in the championship round before he faced Custer’s Easton Dooley in the first place match. Frasier won that match by decision.
Frasier was the only Hill City wrestler to compete this weekend, one in which the team had originally been heading to Belle Fourche.
Head coach Josh Robison said the smaller Red Cloud tournament helped keep Frasier’s confidence going.
Hill City now hosts wrestlers from all over the region in the Black Hills Classic Feb. 7. Robison said it’s an opportunity for people who have never been to a wrestling tournament to see some great athletes and experience the different energy the sport brings.
“Most people aren’t used to the sport. It’s very physical, and the energy in the room feels very different,” said Robison.
Robison encouraged people to come to the tournament, especially if they have children at home who might be interested in the sport.
Robison expected to have Frasier along with Justin Malone competing for the Rangers.
