Block honored by Northern Arizona

Class of 2018 Custer High School graduate Logan Block recently earned the prestigious Gold Axe Award from Northern Arizona University (NAU).
Each semester, this Division I school recognizes a limited number of seniors who have made outstanding contributions to the college and local community. The award honors those who are committed to excelling in life outside of the classroom through leading student organizations, providing services to the at-large community and involvement in their academic college. The university mascot is a Lumberjack, and the Gold Axe celebrated the accomplishments of only 29 seniors this year.
During his time in Flagstaff, Ariz., Block served as hall representative for two residence halls on campus, volunteered for the Flagstaff Family Food Center and assisted with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
As a freshman, he was selected to represent NAU at a leadership conference at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.  He was heavily involved in the NAU Department of Theatre’s production “She Kills Monsters,” and he represented the university through the Beach Volleyball Club.
As a community service project he coordinated and led a structured fitness program focused on core muscles for members of the Holy Trinity Catholic Newman Center.  For multiple years he played a major role in organizing homecoming events on campus, celebrating “Lumberjack Pride” and engaging students from across disciplines and from various walks of life.
Academically, Block finished his tenure in the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences with 126 credit hours and a 4.0 GPA. He successfully networked with various professors to work on a variety of projects and was engaged with organizations such as the National Park Foundation and National Association for Interpretation. He also auditioned and earned an internship in the Disney College Program during the 2020 spring semester where he worked as a performer at Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and EPCOT at Disney World.
“Logan is one of those students who walks into your classroom and you are instantly drawn to him,” said Dr. Kathleen King of the W. A. Franke College of Business, School of Hotel and Restaurant Management. “He will greet you with a smile that is genuine and engage in meaningful conversations.  From the moment he stepped onto the NAU campus he became a part of the community.”
“I’m humbled by this award, and I appreciate all of the experiences given to me by NAU. It’s hard to believe that my academic years have come to an end,” Block said. “But I’m excited for what the future holds and anxious to move on to my next adventure.”
Block graduated Summa Cum Laude Dec. 10 with a degree in parks and recreation management amd a minor in tourism and leisure planning and an emphasis in community, commercial and tourism.
Block will move to Florida in early January for a position in conservation education within Animal Kingdom at Disney World.
