Crash ends with upside down vehicle
The Custer County Sheriff’s Office assisted in responding to an accident within Pennington County near the Custer County line late last Thursday evening. The name of the 58-year old driver has not been released.
When deputies arrived, the Hermosa woman was still buckled into the driver’s seat, although her 2005 Subaru Legacy was flipped upside down.
Preliminary crash information indicates the driver was traveling south on Hwy. 16/385 near mile marker 35 when her vehicle veered off the roadway to the right, over corrected, then began to swerve and entered a yaw. The vehicle tripped and rolled, coming to rest on its roof. The driver sustained serious, life-threatening injuries. Alcohol is being considered as a factor in the crash.
The DUI-caused rollover on Hwy. 385 held up traffic on the highway until the accident was cleared. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The driver’s dog was also in the car and was transported to Battle Mountain Humane Society.
