Daniel Herriges

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel D. Herriges.  
He was born in West Bend, Wis., Dec. 16, 1952, and left this world April 29, 2026, in Custer, S.D., at the age of 73. 
A loving husband, father and grandfather who grew up in Wisconsin where he met and married the love of his life, Marlene “Mars” Wanke, before moving to the Black Hills in 1977.  
Mars laughs as she recalls their first date which they shared with Dan’s younger brother, David, because it happened to be on David’s birthday. Dan always made time for family, one of his true passions in life. 
Other joys in his life were friends, motorcycling, fishing, animals, playing pool, a good game night, and especially music. It was evident to anyone who experienced Dan’s skill on the drums and incredible vocals just how much he loved music and playing for people. 
Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ione Herriges. 
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mars; daughters, Carla (m. Tyler Barrett) and Chrissy (m. Matt Noble); six beloved grandchildren, Caden, Auburn, Macy, Madeline, Brianna and Shane; brothers, David, Dick, Dale and Dean; and sister, Diana. 
He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered for his quiet strength and the deep love he showed to those he held close to him.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family at the celebration of life, which will be held at the family home in Custer May 26 from 4 p.m. - TBD.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer.
