Joyce Hughes

Joyce Arlene (Augustine) Hughes was born Sept. 11, 1942, in Idaho. She was the daughter of Stanley and Hazel (Wilhelm) Augustine.  
At a young age Joyce moved with her family to Hill City, S.D., where her father worked on the Crazy Horse Memorial.
Joyce attended Hill City High School, where she enjoyed being a cheerleader. In 1959 she was united in marriage to Larry Hughes. To this union five children were born: Vickie, Linda, Debbie, Stanley and Mark.
Following their marriage, Larry and Joyce lived in Custer, S.D., for many years, where Joyce worked as a waitress at the Custer Café. In 1994 they moved to Belle Fourche, S.D. Larry died in 2015.
Joyce was a generous person who would give anything to anybody. She cared about people and she especially loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. And Joyce made the best fried chicken and homemade gravy in the world. She will be greatly missed by all her loving family.
Joyce died Monday, Aug. 2, 2021 at her home in Belle Fourche. She was 78.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Vickie Sharp; and brothers, Gary and Wayne.
Joyce is survived by her sons, Stanley of Belle Fourche, and Mark (Letha) of Custer; daughters, Linda (Rick) Wright of Belle Fourche, and Debbie Kurrasch of Rapid City; nine grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Cheri, Elaine, Carol, and Mary.
Services were Aug. 5 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D.
