Lakota Lake isn’t as hidden, but still a gem

Tiny Lakota Lake can be found just outside of Keystone on Iron Mountain Road. And while it’s not quite so hidden it is quite a gem.
The lake features fishing, picnicking and even rock scrambling and climbing. Anglers often find rainbow trout in the cold waters.
Another great amenity is hiking. One can choose to hike around the lake or pick up the number No. 15 Iron Creek Trail right across the street.
The trail crosses the creek numerous times winding in and out of open spaces and woodsy shade. It is approximately six miles long out and back.
Lakota Lake itself offers wonderful views including small cascades and marsh-like wetlands. Although large birds do not frequent the lake there are many smaller birds and families of Canada geese present.
The lake has numerous turtles along its shoreline, likely due to its tranquil setting. It is a non-motorized lake, making it ideal for kayaks, canoes and stand up paddle boards.
There is a small daily fee to use Lakota Lake.
