Larry Buchan

Larry Lee Buchan was born May 4, 1936, in Minnesota to John and Carrie Buchan Jr.
Larry attended Rutland High School in Rutland, Iowa, and graduated in 1955. He and Sally Ann Warneke were married Oct. 16, 1963, and moved to Custer, S.D., in 1977. Larry’s career included working as an electrician in Iowa and painting cars and performing auto technician work in Iowa and South Dakota.
Larry was a unique man. He was very stubborn and very zealous in his beliefs, especially his political beliefs. Larry spent his free time at Black Powder Rendezvous wearing his buckskin clothing, living in a tent, cooking with cast iron on the fire and shooting black powder guns.
Larry, of Custer, passed away April 30, 2022, at Good Samaritan Society in New Underwood, S.D.  
He is survived by his son, Wade Buchan; daughters, Lori (Bert) Pond,  Stephanie (James) Pfister and Nicole (Bill) Skenandore; grandchildren, Shanna Fischer, Chad Pond, Tyler Buchan, Spencer Buchan, Chanler Buchan, Samanatha Toelke, Jakki Buchan, Perry Sitting Crow, Jr., Jesse Sitting Crow, Waylon Sitting Crow, Christopher Buchan and Cheynne Buchan; and 14 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Larry and Sally’s lives will be held 2-4 p.m., with the Rev. Pam Power officiating services at 2:15 p.m., Sunday, May 15, at the Custer County Courthouse Annex Pine Room.
