Lois grew up in Bonesteel, attending country school and Bonesteel High School before graduating as valedictorian of her class in 1953. She worked as a teller in the Bonesteel bank both before and after graduation.
In 1955 Lois married Wayne Baldwin and together they had two sons, Michael Mark and Timothy David. As a homemaker, Lois poured her heart into caring for her family. In 1990 Lois married Vernon Pepper. They had been schoolmates while growing up in Bonesteel. They enjoyed many travels together by airplane and camper; memorably trips to the Caribbean, Australia and Sweden where Lois explored her ancestral home.
