Loren Hobbs

Loren Hobbs was born Dec. 8, 1944, in Hot Springs, S.D., to Harry and Bertha (Crofutt) Hobbs.
Loren, along with his brothers, worked at Linde’s Sawmill for many years.    Loren loved it here and would never consider leaving. He was known to say, “I’m married to Custer.”
Loren liked going on long car rides around the Black Hills of South Dakota to places like the Limestone area and adventures to Dewey. He enjoyed telling stories, watching sports (Denver Broncos were not his favorite team) and collecting. He liked walking and even if you didn’t know his name you knew him from one of his many walks.
Many Custer residents knew Loren as a local historian and weatherman. He enjoyed visiting with friends, neighbors and family.  He could “talk your ear off”...that’s a good thing.
Loren, of Custer, S.D., passed away April 17, 2022. He was 77.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harry; mother, Bertha; and sister, Leona.
Loren is survived by his brothers, Larry and Lonnie Hobbs;  sister, Lavilla Russell; nephew, Terry Russell; nieces, Rhonda Reinhart and Rae Morgan; and multitudes of great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Loren is loved and will be missed by every single one of the people who survive him.
A celebration of Loren’s Life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer.  Condolences may be left at chamberlainmccolleys.com.
