Marilyn Tounsley

Marilyn Tounsley was born to Joy and Donald Olson in DeSmet, S.D., in 1942. She was raised on the family farm along with her three sisters. After completing her schooling at DeSmet High School, she married Jerry Tounsley in 1959.
Marilyn and Jerry lived in Huron until 1975, when they moved to Wessington Springs, S.D.
In 1982 they moved to Custer, S.D., where they resided until Marilyn retired from the Forest Service. They then moved to Chamberlain, S.D., in 2012 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Marilyn returned to Wessington Springs in 2022 where she lived until her death. 
Marilyn loved hosting and interacting with family. She was an avid golfer and loved to watch professional golf, especially her favorite player, Sergio Garcia.
Camping and fishing were two of her favorite things, often making them into family vacations with her young family and later with her adult children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing any type of cards. 
She loved animals and had many throughout the course of her life. She enjoyed walking her dogs. She also liked to crochet. After moving to Chamberlain, she became a member of the Trinity Lutheran church and enjoyed playing Mexican train with her new friends. 
Marilyn passed away Oct. 27, 2022, in Wessington Springs. She was 80.
Marilyn was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; and three brothers in law. 
She is survived by her four children, Wendy (Arden) Bergeleen, Donald (Diane) Tounsley, Teresa (Craig) Fonder and Robert (Brianne) Tounsley; 10 grandchildren; 13 great- grandchildren, three sisters, Sharon (Donald) Wendel, Judy (Lowell) Richards, Donna (Roger) Deitrich; and many nieces and nephews
Memorial services will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church Nov. 5, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. with lunch to follow.
