Mark Morrissey

Mark David Morrissey was born Sept. 6, 1955, in Evanston, Ill., to William H., Morrisey and Anita Margaret Morrissey.
After his high school years in New Jersey, Mark lived in California and eventually settled in Morrill, Neb., where he worked as an over-the-road truck driver and electrical lineman. In 1999, Mark married his life partner, Susan, and together they established their restaurant, “Our Place,” in Custer, S.D. After Susan’s passing nine years later, Mark continued to operate the café and kept her dream alive until his retirement in May 2019.
During retirement Mark’s passion for the open road came on the back of his Harley-Davidson Road King. In true biker form, Mark logged in excess of 100,000 miles across the United States, visiting with family and friends along the way. Mark spent his spare time from the road watching Fox News and listening to his favorite Band, The Grateful Dead.
When Mark received his diagnosis, it was dealt with as a true believer. In addressing his family, he told them that, while this would be his final trip, it was his blessing to be reunited with the love of his life.
Armed with that courage and belief in God, Mark died Feb. 1, 2020. He was 64.
He is survived by his sister Julie (Stu) Willis of Denville, N.J., and their children Danielle and Christopher; brothers, Jason (Anne) Morrissey of Overland Park, Kan., and their children Jack, Connor and Elizabeth and Todd (Nicole) Morrissey of Elkhorn, Neb., and their children Miles and Morgan; sister-in-law Stacy Reynolds (Mike Carter) of Custer; and many friends from the Custer area and his road family, as well as other lifelong friends from New Jersey and extended family mostly in Nebraska.
In lieu of a memorial or flowers, the family asks that anyone wishing to donate do so to either St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the Wounded Warrior Foundation or Monument Hospice House in Rapid City, S.D.
Memorial services are Feb. 14 at 10 a.m. at Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer.
