Patricia Snyder

Patricia “Patty” Marie Snyder was born in Rapid City, S.D., Nov. 28, 1961, to Harold Allen Snyder and Myrna Andrenne Olson.  Patty and her older sister, Terry, grew up on a farm in Minnesota.
Patty was a strong-willed child with a mind of her own. Patty’s first grade teacher nicknamed her “Sarah Bernhardt” after the famous 19th century French actress because she was so dramatic.
Her mother Myrna told of how, when Patty was 5 years old, she got her hair cut and she thought it was too short, so she packed her little suitcase and ran away from home! She got a ways down the street until her dad went and got her, covered in wood ticks.
Patty herself would tell you she spent a lot of her life “running,” never settling in any one spot long. Patty worked as a waitress, bartender and cook (and wow could Patty cook).  Patty was even a body builder at one time! We have seen the pictures to prove it.
Finally settled, Patty started at Krull’s Market in 2006 as a cashier. It didn’t matter if you were an acquaintance, friend or stranger, Patty would greet everyone who came through the door with a “Hi Honey!” Her infectious laugh and sense of humor and little sparkle in her eye will be missed.
In January of 2019 our beloved Patty was officially diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver. This disease was something that Patty wanted her friends and family to know that she was fighting; not for sympathy, not for pity, but for awareness. She was brave enough to accept the consequences of her past actions and choices and the reality of her impending death because of them. Patty accepted Christ into her life and heart and was secure with the knowledge of her eternal salvation.
Rest easy honey, you finally earned your angel wings.
Patty died Dec. 10, 2021. She was 60.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Allen Snyder; her grandparents; and her beautiful daughter Pamela, who died too soon at the age of 19 in 2011. Patty will be buried next to her.
Patty is survived by her son, Levon Snyder of Rapid City; daughter, Shenna (Cody) Antonson; granddaughter, Nevaeh; grandson, Riley of Kansas; Momma Mryna Olson (Daniel Nordin) of Hill City S.D.; sister, Terry Anderson of Custer S.D.; friend, Norman Oestreich of Hill City and his family, especially his sons Max and Mark Oestreich both of Nebraska and Matthew Oestreich, who passed away in 2016, all of whom she loved as her own. Last but not least her devoted kitty, Honey.
The family will hold a private graveside service. They also had a gathering of friends and family who could attend at Mangiamo in Hill City to celebrate Patty’s life.
A memorial has been established to help with expenses and can be sent to Myrna Olson, Patty’s mother, at Box 536 Hill City, SD 57745.
