Rally breakfast a big hit at new center

Wonderful. Beautiful. Spacious.

That was the consensus from everyone at the senior center rally breakfast at the new Hill City Center.

Judy Swift has been making and serving gravy for bikers who come to the senior breakfast for 16 years and was ecstatic at how the Hill City Center space has turned out.

“It’s just wonderful. There is lots of room and we’re not bumping into each other,” Swift said.  “The community should really be proud of this building.”

Swift describes how there is room for utensils and each person has plenty of space for their station, whether it’s cracking eggs or serving guests. She also notes how nice it is having two microwaves that are tucked away on shelves so that biscuits can be heated and served warm.

“Before they were in our doorway,” she said.

Not only is there more room to serve, there is a breakroom for volunteers to relax in between the rush of bikers.

And there is plenty of room for the bikers, both inside and out.

Don Taylor and Craig Davis, both from St. George, Utah, remember eating out on the lawn last year. This year they were enjoying the new patio space at the Hill City Center. Don points up and says, “You can’t see this hawk flying around inside.” Both men repeatedly described the new building as beautiful.

Taylor and Davis come every year to support the seniors of Hill City.

“We love it. We heard the city took it over and said ‘we’re not participating if it’s not for the seniors,’” but then learned that it still benefits the seniors and came in support of the organization. “We do it for the seniors. We love it. Every year it gets better. They add more and keep doing more,” Taylor said.

And it’s not just the food the two come back for year after year. It’s the way they are treated and hosted.

“The seniors walk through and talk to us. They tell us stories about Hill City. It’s so neat,” Davis said.

As Taylor puts it, “If you have a chance to support the seniors, why wouldn’t you?”
