Ranger golfers endure strange weather

The Hill City High School Ranger golf team finished in fifth place with a team total of 320 at the Philip Golf Tournament last weekend.
This was the bottom of the pack, likely due to a slow start for the athletes.
“Golf is 80 percent mental,” said coach Josh Daiss, who explained how hard it is to bounce back mentally and get into the right frame of mind to compete.
The top finisher of the day for the Rangers was Leo Daiss, who came in  14th overall  with a score of 102. Golfers began the day in jackets and cooler temperatures. Halfway through the tournament the sun came out and the temperatures increased into the 80s, creating a tough environment for the golfers.
Also a challenge for golfers is playing on a new course—Rangers golfers likely have either played in Philip once or not at all.
Despite the challenges coach Daiss is optimistic about the golfing season. He stresses there is plenty of time left in the season for the team to qualify for post regular season play.  He is also hoping that one or two of the golfers who he describes as “almost identical” in terms of performance break away from the back and help move the team forward.
The Rangers golf team next competes in Newell.
