Sheryl Spooner

Sheryl Lyn Spooner, 42, of Jefferson, Wisc., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Sheryl was born on August 17, 1981, in Custer County, South Dakota. She attended school and graduated Custer High School, class of ‘99.  Sheryl was very athletic and involved in several sports including wrestling, volleyball, basketball, softball and most recently she joined the Jefferson Rowing Team.  She made any athletic activity look easy, and earned many awards and medals. She loved coaching youth teams.
Sheryl drove train for Burlington Northern in Wyo. before moving to Wisc. She was most recently a supervisor for Latitude Graphics in Madison, where she was employed for 20 years.  She married Tarrah Spooner on July 13, 2012 and gained a step-son Jackson. She loved taking on the roll as an extra mom.
Sheryl was best known for her fun sense of adventure, and her contagious outgoing personality. Her compassion toward others was truly an inspiration.
She was adored as “Auntie Shrl” to many nieces and nephews, all of which held a very special place in her heart. She made as many trips back to the Black Hills as possible to spend time with them.
Sheryl is survived by her spouse, Tarrah; son, Jackson Smith of Jefferson; mother Teresa (Carldean) Erickson of Mission, S.D.; father Phil (Ann) Schutt of Moorcroft, Wyo.; siblings Michael (Kristain) Schutt of Gillette, WY, Amanda (Steven) Blume of Custer, S.D., Daniel (Danya) Schutt of Moorcroft, Wyo., and many step brothers and sisters from Wyo. & S.D.  She is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Redden.
A graveside service will take place July 18th at Cold Springs Cemetery in Custer County, S.D. at 4 p.m. with the Custer High School class of ’99 as Honorary Pallbearers.
Following the service please join us by car or UTV for a memorial drive up Needles Highway.
