Wildcats win over ’Diggers, Bison in straight sets

The Custer High School Wildcat volleyball team is adcvancing to the region semifinals Thursday after their win against Hot Springs Monday evening. They also won against Lead-Deadwood last Tuesday, which was important to guranteering their home court advantage against Hot Springs.
“It was a really important game for us,” said head coach Jill Hohn.
Against the Lead-Deadwood Golddiggers, the Wildcats had a relatively easy win in three straight sets (25-13, 25-15, 29-27).
“Our third set was a little too close for comfort for us,” said Hohn.
In that game, Jojo Larsen had nine kills and Rachel Miklos had seven kills and six digs.
Becuase of that win, the ’Cats had a home court advantage in their first round of region play against Hot Springs Monday. The team played against the Bison twice this season, losing both by relatively close margins.
Going in the team worked on blocking as well as their hitting coverage to prepare for the matchup.
“I felt we executed those really well,” said Hohn.
Their hard work and preparation paid off as they won in straight sets (25-14, 25-19, 25-17).
In that game, Brook Bennett was responsible for several “key blocks” for the team, with five solo blocks and block assists.
Jojo Larson had seven kills, and Kayda Hannis had four aces and a great serving game.
“Her serving really helped. We had a great serving game,” said Hohn. The team only missed four serves in that match.
“We were very pleased with how it went,” said Hohn. “I was so proud of how the girls showed up and performed and had fun on the court.”
Moving forward into regions, the team plays Rapid City Christian on Thursday.
“They are a very talented team with a quick offense,” said Hohn.
