Wells, Jensen face off in Buffalo Gap

Herman Wells is facing Steve Jensen in the race for a seat on the Buffalo Gap Town Board in the June 2 election.
Wells has been a resident of Buffalo Gap for just over three and a half years. His military career and subsequent service with the Department of Defense have taken him across the country and the world, and he says that has given him a “unique perspective into working with and becoming involved in new communities and the different perspectives of the people residing in those communities.” 
“My years of work experience refined my ability to problem solve while working with limited time and resources, often under less-than-ideal circumstances,” he said. 
“As a trustee I [would] have a fiduciary responsibility to act in the best interests of the citizens and to ensure all governance actions are in accordance with applicable laws and regulations…helping my community solve complex issues with limited resources while working within the framework of my oath of office is a challenge I am ready for.”
“The most important issues facing Buffalo Gap are safeguarding the tow’s financial health and ensuring the citizens have safe drinking water…overall, my priorities will be, finances and financial transparency, water and water infrastructure to include preparation for water emergencies, maintenance of town equipment, and road maintenance.” 
He keeps himself involved in the community of Buffalo Gap and over the last few years has helped repair critical deficiencies in the water system which the state had identified, has volunteered on the town’s park committee, addressing safety concerns such as a power line and unsafe playground equipment, and he volunteers with the Storehouse food pantry. 
He summarized the responsibility of those in public office, saying, “Serve the citizens to the absolute best of your ability. Listen to citizens’ concerns. Understand the law and your responsibilities in implementing the law fairly and with compassion. This is no small feat.”
