Results of the state GOP convention

Greetings! Summer is passing along and that means political conventions. Yep, we have to select our presidential candidates, both Republican and Democrat for the General Election held Nov. 3.  We had our Republican State Convention remotely this past Saturday, June 20.  Pennington County GOP (Grand Old Party), the Republican Party hosted a remote site in Rapid City at the Ramkota Hotel.  
In addition to nominating a person for President, we had resolutions to vote on also.  They were:
Resolution #1 – A resolution supporting President Donald Trump.

Black Hills residents and lovers of everything America beware! The Antifa and Black Lives Matter anarchists are coming our way. It’s just a matter of time. Elsewhere in the country statues of presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt are being taken down for various concocted reasons. Only President Abraham Lincoln, who is best known for preserving the republic and freeing the slaves, appears to be safe, for now.

In case you haven’t noticed, everywhere you look today, free speech in this country is under attack. Individuals and businesses are being blackmailed into apologizing for what they said or didn’t say, to fit the current pattern of group thought in our society today.

Greetings! I know a while ago I promised no more voter primary talk until the General Election on Nov. 3. Well, I have to recant on my bold statement because we have a recount.  Yep, in District 30 House race, we’re having a recount.

Toppling statues, renaming places solves nothing

Last week we saw the anti-Confederacy movement spring to life again as its promoters turned violent in the destruction and desecration of Confederate statues of generals in several states. Even Christopher Columbus got caught up in the mix when his statue was beheaded and removed by officials from a Boston park. Now even poor Chris is seen as a bad guy by demonstrators and rioters.

To say that the events of the first six months of 2020 have been “troubling” is to utter a massive understatement. We have all been shocked to our very core by events that have left us reeling and in fear of what might happen next. 
There’s no need to recount the alarming events on the national and local scene since New Years Day 2020. We have all lived them. 

Protests have served their purpose

Protests have a purpose. People protest when they feel like they’re not being heard. For the last week, we’ve seen countless protests because of what happened to George Floyd while in the custody of the Minneapolis police. Personally, I couldn’t even make it through the video of his death because it was so gut-wrenching. There is no one who thinks that what happened to George Floyd was okay.
The protests have served their purpose. The question before us now is: What do we want policing to look like going forward? That’s at all levels – city, county and state.

It’s finally over

Greetings! It’s finally over. What is finally over?  The Primary Election! This was a difficult primary due to the Chinese Communist Virus. The Republican Party in each of the three counties did a great job helping candidates and each even had a forum for all of the candidates to campaign in and speak at.   The Democrat Party did not run any candidates in the Legislative races, so no forums or anything were needed.

There was universal condemnation to the death of George Floyd, a black man, at the hands of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin May 25. It didn’t take long for Chauvin to be charged with third degree, and then second degree murder and manslaughter in Floyd’s death. Three of Chauvin’s fellow officers also face charges because they stood around and said or did nothing while Chauvin had his knee on Floyd’s neck for over eight minutes. The video of the terrible event said it all.
