Pavillion at Ponderosa Park takes shape

Work is underway, and phase one of the new Pavillion at Ponderosa Park, located near the Visitor Information Center on the west end of town, is nearing completion. Following initial dirt work, the concrete base has been poured and the walls erected.
“The plan is to be completely done before Friday,” said park board member, Cassandra Ott.
The board is now awaiting bids for phase two of the project, which will be reviewed in January. Phase two includes the installation of steel uprights and roof framing.

Alumni basketball game returns Dec. 27

Hill City basketball fans are invited to step back onto the court and into the stands for the Hill City High School Alumni Basketball Games Saturday, Dec. 27. 
The ladies’ alumni game tips off at 3 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 4:30 p.m.

Two Christmas bingo benefits this Saturday

Bingo fans have two options for play this week as both Hill City and Keystone host a Christmas Bingo—both for great causes—Dec. 20.
The Hill City Lions Club bingo kicks off at 5 p.m. with a meal of sloppy Joes at the Hill City Center. Play begins at 6 p.m. with cards priced at $1.50 per game. For $15, players can play all 10 games. The bingo is a cash bingo with the exception of blackout games, which will be played for a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.
The evening is a fundraiser for the Angel Fund.

“Busy hands are happy hands,” as the saying goes.  
If that’s true, the Heart of the Hills Quilters must be absolutely ecstatic. 
The guild is home to 57 members, mostly from the Hill City community with others spanning as far as Minnesota, Wyoming, Montana and even Alaska, some with over 20 years of membership. The quilters are deeply active in the community, making and donating quilts, pillowcases and even dog beds to a variety of individuals and organizations.

Isakson family are Angels in Adoption

The Isakson family of Hill City have a big heart and strong passion for fostering and adoption, which is evident through their growing family’s story.
For Jackie Isakson, fostering children had been her dream long before she met her husband, Marcus.
“It had been on my heart. I wanted to do that some day,” said Jackie. 
From the very beginning of their relationship, Jackie was upfront about her calling.
“She was like, just so you know, foster care and adoption is going to be in our future,” Marcus admitted, making Jackie laugh.

Extra pep for band program

Two Hill City nonprofits have donated to the Hill City High School Pep Band. The Hill City Arts Council (HCAC) gave a $4,600 donation, and the Hill City Seniors gave $2,500 for a total donation of  $7,100 to the program. 
“This is really what community is about,” said HCAC board president Kristie Van Bogart. 
Supporting the pep band has been on the HCAC’s radar for a long time. 
“We wanted to make this a reality,” Van Bogart said, explaining the donation.
