— The Keystone, Hayward and Hermosa fire departments began combining to form the Battle Creek Fire Protection District. This collaboration was expected to bring quicker response times, lower taxes and eliminate redundancies between the three fire stations ... The Friends of the Hill City Library took a decided step toward growing the Hill City Friends of the Library Fund by signing a quasi-endowed agreement with the Black Hills Area Community Foundation at their annual Christmas Tea.

Alexander family boosts foundation

Just six weeks after the initial challenge contributions were given to get the Hill City Area Community Foundation on its feet, the first goal of $200,000 has been met. These “challenge” contributions were met with generous donations by many in the community.

— Hill City kicked off the holidays with its annual Old Tyme Christmas celebration Nov. 26. There were treats, discounts and actvities to enjoy along with a parade … The second annual Purses for the Homeless Drive began to help women at the Cornerstone Rescue Mission Women’s and Children’s Home. The community was asked to donate personal care items and winter clothing to fill purses. Later the drive coordinators prepared the purses for delivery.
