I like lists. They are how I keep track of everything from shopping to tasks to scheduling plans. Sometimes my lists backfire though. Because while they are a useful way to keep track of things, they also act as a constant reminder of everything I need to do and everything I still haven’t done.

Greetings! Hear ye, hear ye: Custer State Park campgrounds second edition.  Since writing last week about the 176 campsites to be constructed at the start of the Wildlife Loop, a lot has changed. First off, Gov. Kristi Noem listened to you and has agreed that this is not a good plan. My hat is off to Gov. Noem because she believes in listening to the citizens of South Dakota. Wow! Now that shows the character of this lady.

First of all, I want to thank you for rallying to my call for input on the Custer State Park project. Last week I reached out to many of you and asked the question, what are your feelings about the initial proposal from Game Fish and Parks for the 175 campsites at the Wildlife Loop location and then to the revised proposal of 66 campsites at the Stockade Lake location?

Greetings! Well, what should we talk about? Hmmm. How about House Bill 1048? Trust me, I’ll have this bill number in my head for a long, long time! What’s it about? Game, Fish, and Parks (GF&P) has asked for a $10 million appropriation to build 175 new campsites in Custer State Park.  

Getting thrown under the bus

I often think about many of the idiomatic expressions we use here in North America.
Most countries have them. You may hear “have a go” or “you’re being bloody cheeky.” Here in the States we use the expression “being thrown under the bus.”
Have you ever been? Not literally of course. But figuratively?

Three things I love about small towns

I saw someone I knew at the gas station the other day. I waved and said hello by name. They smiled and waved back. This may seem insignificant to many. Surely it happens all the time in a small town. I rarely experienced this back in Minnesota though.

Greetings! You may have read an editorial in the Rapid City Journal  Jan. 15 by a relatively new resident to Rapid City and to South Dakota. In the editorial, Mrs. Woods was very critical of the governor’s girls’ sports bill. Why would she write such a critical editorial?

Davis fourth at Monster

The Hill City Rangers Wrestling team competed at the Mid Dakota Monster in Presho this past weekend.
Senior Tanner Davis, 220 pounds, placed fourth and scored 16 team points. Davis received a bye in the first round and defeated Noah Shabram of O’Neill in the second round. 
Davis won by decision in the quarterfinals, beating Austin Hoiten of McCook Central/Montrose. Davis was defeated by Canton’s Marshall Baldwin by decision in the semifinals.
Davis said it was one of the hardest competitions he has had and that he learned a lot.

Taiwan has been recognized as a sovereign country by 15 other countries (including the Vatican) around the world. Until a few weeks ago, that is.  
The government of Nicaragua has decided to cut ties with the small island; it first established relations with Taiwan in the 1990s.
Taiwan is officially referred to as the Republic of China. I should know, since I lived there. Interestingly I also own property in Nicaragua, which is why this recent move piqued my interest.
