Monument could lose millions due to Sanford Health expansion

Monument Health could lose $40 million a year in federal revenue, be forced to reduce some medical services and have to cut back on construction efforts as a result of plans by Sanford Health to build a competing medical campus, Monument’s CEO said in an interview.

Sanford Health announced Monday that it will use a $300 million gift from its namesake philanthropist, Denny Sanford, to build a medical center in Rapid City.
Bill Gassen, president and CEO of Sanford Health, announced the gift during a Rapid City event that drew numerous local and state dignitaries.
“This philanthropic investment will strengthen health care in this community and across the entire region,” Gassen said.

Donating purses for a purpose

For over a decade, the Hill City Community has been donating purses for a purpose in a charitable initiative called The Purse Project.
Organized by Sue Anderson of Hill City, it collects gently used or new purses along with new personal and essential filler items. These are assembled into gift bags that are donated to the Cornerstone Women’s and Children’s Home in Rapid City and  Women Escaping a Violent Environment (WEAVE) in Custer. 
Larger purses are especially appreciated as they hold more donated items.

Shop till you drop at Kris Kringle Nov. 28-29

The annual Kris Kringle Craft and Vendor Fair is Nov. 28-29. Organizer Stefanie Doaty said she is excited about this year’s event. 
“I think it’s the best one so far,” Doaty said. 
With 46 vendors and a half dozen on a waitlist, the fair is the largest craft fair  Hill City has. 
“It’s really awesome,” Doaty said. “This used to be in the old senior center. Ranae Schrier moved it to the school. It was in the cafeteria gym. Then, it went to the Burden gym. When I took it over, I was like, ‘We’re gonna utilize both gyms.’” 

Hill City Ambulance open house Dec. 6

Before the concrete was poured and the walls took shape, the foundation of Hill City’s new Ambulance Service building was already in place—the community that supported it. 
After rallying together from bake sales to bingo cards, the hometown that fueled and funded the new ambulance building is invited to celebrate its completion with a holiday-themed open house Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

— A Memorial Chapel at Mountain View Cemetery in Keystone was donated by Carolyn Clifford to mark the passing of her husband, Nick, who passed away in 2019 ... The Hill City Rangers volleyball team finished eighth at the state Class A tournament in Watertown ... The children of Gary and Linda Daiss happily announced their parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. Gary and Linda were married Nov. 27, 1970, in the bride’s hometown of Howard. The couple have lived in Hill City since 1976.
