Published by admin on Wed, 04/26/2023 - 10:48am

It seems dishonest people come up with new schemes every day to try to separate folks from their hard-earned money. A case in point is the experience of one local resident who reports she recently took a series of calls and texts from people who were apparently trying to steal her identity. The woman said she received two calls and a text over several days from persons claiming to be from Amazon in what appeared to be a classic “phishing” scam.

So much a part of our national consciousness, the National Day of Prayer (NDP), set for the first Thursday in May each year, has been placed on all Hallmark calendars, much like Thanksgiving or Christmas. Locally, the Hill City Ministerial Association collaborates each year to bring two opportunities for corporate prayer. On Thursday, May 4, all are invited to gather at the Little White Church for prayer at noon followed by lunch together. In the evening the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church will host a light supper at 6 p.m. followed by a time of prayer.

Two weeks after the first reading passed unanimously with zero council discussion or public feedback, an amendment to the city’s ordinance governing transient merchant permits—and more specifically, the addition of a section that would allow mobile food trucks in town—received plenty of both at the April 17 meeting of the Custer City Council.
Several restaurant owners were on hand for the second reading of the ordinance amendment and asked questions and voiced concerns regarding the amendment before ultimately seeing the second reading tabled.

Board forgives snow day

Published by admin on Wed, 04/19/2023 - 3:59pm

The Custer School District Board of Education held its monthly meeting last Tuesday, April 11. After a major snowstorm swept through the area at the beginning of the month, a school make-up day from a previous snow day ended up being a snow day itself. This led to a discussion of how to be more prepared for future snow days.
There are designated days scheduled in each month for snow make-up days, but some on the board feel that this way of planning hasn’t worked well enough.
