Every year, the Delta Dental Mobile Program pays a visit to Hill City.
This year was no different as the program — housed in a specially outfitted bus — was parked outside Hill City Middle School Dec. 16-20.
“It’s very well worth it,” said Theresa Masteller, the bus coordinator for Delta Dental. “We’ve been coming for five years. We have seen 219 kids as of last year.”
The Hill City Planning and Zoning Commission once again discussed the proposed sign ordinance revision at its Dec. 16 meeting.
Further discussion was held after the Hill City Common Council said in its first meeting in November that more discussion is needed on the proposed ordinance revision.
“We’ve held several focus group meetings,” said Dale Householder, a member of the planning and zoning commission.
The Hill City School District is a good steward of capital outlay and program funds according to the independent auditor’s report that was shared at the most recent school board meeting.
Rumors about the sale of the Lodge at Mount Rushmore in Keystone are not true, according to a recent phone interview with Josh Schmaltz, president of Ramkota Properties.
Ramkota Properties, based out of Sioux Falls, owns several properties in the area including the Lodge at Deadwood.
“This is not a done deal,” said Schmaltz. “If we could get a well we’d move forward.”
About a half dozen people showed up to the most recent Keystone Comprehensive Plan meeting.
The meeting, one of the last prior to the drafting of the plan, was a follow up session being held after the summer online survey.
The comprehensive plan’s purpose is to “help address community issues and concerns” and to “allow community members to provide their input and ideas regarding the future of the town.”
When the Hill City Common Council met for its first meeting in November, it discussed the sign ordinance revisions recommended by the Hill City Planning and Zoning Commission.
After discussion, the council said there needed to be more discussion and input from the Hill City business community before the revisions could move forward at the council level.
Repairs on the Town of Keystone’s sewer line are underway it was learned at the most recent Keystone Town Board meeting.
“They’ll be replacing 100 feet of pipe in front of the wax museum and maybe 20 at most in front of the Roosevelt. And then they’re gonna move the hydrant over on Blair and First,” said Superintendent of public works Jerry Przybylski.
